When Patrick Pipino’s daughters — Isabelle, 12, and Sarah, 7 — were late to school on Tuesday, the dad decided to explain why in an honest, straightforward note. It reads, “Last night Isabelle was lucky enough to see Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in Albany, and darned if he didn’t play for three and a half hours.”
The note goes on
to say, “This may not seem like a good excuse, but have you ever
wondered how many kids would be late — or miss school outright — if God
were to suddenly appear? It’s something like that.”
Pipino told ABC News
that his daughters are huge Bruce fans. “They both love Bruce
Springsteen, and have ever since the older one was only four years old.
Isabelle would be singing from the back seat, and if I had something
else on, she would say, ‘Dad, can we listen to Springsteen?’
WNYT NewsChannel 13 shared Pipino’s note on Facebook
and asked, “Does he make a valid point?” Among more than 4,000 likes
and 1,900 shares, most people seem to be saying yes, and lots posted
their own family memories. One son shared that his mom “took me out of
school to see the Rangers training camp at GF civic center, greatest day
of my childhood.”
Another praised
Pipino’s honesty: “There are adults who went to the concert and called
in ‘sick’ to work today. This dad not only told the truth….but taught
his daughter that telling the truth is the way to go.”
